Writers Guild Holds Annual Meeting

The Writers Guild organized their annual meeting at Hotel Le Meridien, Kuwait City on April 25, 2001 which was attended by writers, poets, authors, and journalists from different parts of the world.

The meeting was sponsored by an established experienced advocate - Ahmed Qorban - who is also a senior citizen of this land. Johar Chinioty, the scholar chairman and a driving force of the Writers' Guild presided over the meeting,


Mr. Sardar, First Secretary of teh Turkisk Embassy was the chief guest whereas Mr. Sojhe, Councilor of Indian Embassy, Mr. Zamani, Councilor of the Malaysia Embassy, Mr. Saleem Raza, First Secretary of Bangladesh Embassy, Mr. Vongthep, Second Secretary of Thai Embassy, Mr. Sergey, Councilor and Mr. Ilya Samunir, Second Secretary of the Russian Embassy were the guests of honour.

At the outset the chairman, Johar Chinioty invited Mrs. Peyali, a reporter and journalist in Kuwait who recited her three poems with mellifluous words, which attracted applaud. The next was Abdul Aziz Al Daeji, an Arabic scholar, who is commanding a reputed institution in Kuwait, stressed the need to enrish the literature by organizing such literary meetings. He appreciated the efforts exerted by Mr. Johar to promote and enrish the literature. His speech was interpreted by M. Hani Al-Abed, an interpreter at Egyptian People's Assembly.

Ulysses Menezes, the owner and Gaspar Almeida of Goa-World.Net website spoke at length about their website which was very much informative. Mr. Ilya Samunir and Mr. Sergey spoke at length about their country covering the social, economic and literary aspects and pledged to enlighten the members about the modern poets and authors in the next meetings. Mr. Sergey promised to be a permanent member of the Writers Guild. Mr. Vongthep, a diplomat from Thailand, spoke briefly about the influence touched by the mass media particularly the new ones. He emphasiszed that the human mind was greatly affected by modern mass media as seen on the Internet and Satellite media.

Mrs. Punam Kashep, prncipal of Fahaheel Al-Wataniya Public School (DPS), spoke in depth about the role of women in the present society. She focussed on teh fact that all great qualities are feminine - love, compassion, sympathy and kindness.

Mr. Joseph Suraruiu, a great reporter of the two English superior dailies spoke about the achievements of the Writers Guild because of Johar Chinioty. Mr. Sodagar Shujah, a multi-millionaire and owner of a chain of jewellery showrooms, land property worth billions in Pakistan, who joined the Writers Guild for the first time announced to sponsor the next meeting in the month of May.

Mr. Roy Thomas an intellectual and a saintly personality well aware of spiritualism spoke about salvation.
